Chromium picolinate for sugar cravings9/14/2023 The Diabetes Control and Complication Trial reported that tight blood glucose control noticeably slows the complications of diabetes therefore many diabetic patients struggle to manage their blood glucose levels with existing treatments. This chronic disease results from defects in insulin secretion and/or peripheral insulin resistance, that both deteriorate glycemic control. The prevalence of T2DM is increasing at an alarming rate, so that the number of Iranian adults suffering from diabetes was more than four millions in 2011 and has been raised by 35% over the past years. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains a serious public health problem, with high rates of morbidity and mortality in low- or middle-income countries. However, the modest beneficial effects of chromium supplementation on insulin resistance as indicated by HOMA-IR and lipid profile were found. In this study, oral supplementation with 400 µg CrPic for eight weeks did not alter FBG concentration as well as anthropometric parameters in individuals with T2DM. Results of analysis of covariance showed that there were significance differences between groups in total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol and HOMA-IR at the end of the intervention adjusting for baseline levels (p = 0.035, 0.030 and < 0.001, respectively). No significant changes were observed for weight, body mass index, and fasting blood glucose (FBG) in both groups while intra-groups changes in homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) value was significant (p < 0.05). The patients were recommended not to change their normal diet, life style and medication. Anthropometric indices and metabolic factors were measured at the beginning, and at end of the study. One group received 400 µg CrPic per day and the other group took placebo the intervention duration was 8 weeks. The patients with T2DM (n = 52) were randomly allocated into 2 groups. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of chromium picolinate (CrPic) supplementation on the glycemic status and lipid profile in patients with T2DM. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a serious public health problem accompanies with several complications. Superliminal meaning9/14/2023 Honestly, there isn’t much of a reason to play this game outside of the one playthrough. They don’t tell you what you need to do, it’s on you. But to exit rooms you’ll find you may need to make stairs, turn wallpaper into a staircase maybe, make a slice of cheese a walkway, drop a letter block onto a platform in a different room, etc. I won’t go too much into the other puzzles. Traversing from room to room can also sometimes be a challenge in and of itself. The game’s escape room style puzzles are incredibly fun and challenging. That square drops onto the ground, becoming a full-on cube. The best example I have of that is the picture that is featured just below where you stand at just the right place and angle the camera at just the right position to align the checkered wallpaper into a square. Never assume anything! There are times in which items appear out of nothing. But other times you’re in an empty room and the door itself becomes an item or maybe the exit sign. Without giving too much away, you have the items given to you sometimes. This title has a good use if environmental items. I watched a walkthrough from PC on YouTube, it was beautiful and smooth. You’d think there’d be an effort to make this version equal to the PC version. The ghosting is happening on my XBOX One X on my 4K screen, so you’d think that the issue would be non-existant. There is mass amounts of smudgy screen tearing happening. But for the visuals, it was a travesty if you’re moving fast down hallways and such. I’ll talk about the game issues a bit further on. There are some glitches though with the game and visuals. The game looks perfectly fine when you’re standing still or manipulating an item right in front of you. In terms of the visuals, this was probably the saddest part. Sure, she may seem to be commenting on what you’re doing, but it doesn’t feel exactly as well rounded of a character. In this game, the voice seems to be a set of pre-recorded messages you come across. However, Superliminal’s female robotic voice doesn’t seem to have quite as much personality and one-liners. There was another narrating voice that sounds an awful lot like GLaDOS from Portal. I usually ignored whatever was being said in the game, but the voiceover actor did a great job, no complaints. He’s generally speaking about dreams and the dreamstate. Many kudos to Matt for creating a sound that matches a visual.Īs you’re playing in the game, there is a doctor’s voice that you will hear sometimes. On the other hand, it’s there enough so the game doesn’t feel empty and pitch silent. The music is not too abrasive and is way chill for letting your mind just think about the level. If you simply pause the game or sit on the title screen and turn your sound up, it’s like a free waiting room radio station for your house. The unique soundtrack is a mixture of lounge and classical compositions by Matt Christensen. I would go so far to say that it’s one of its most redeeming attributes. Superliminal did not disappoint in this department. I would say that as always, I look to the soundtrack of a game to set the mood. By using the ambiguity of depth, this first-person puzzle game allows players to explore a surreal world by manipulating objects in physical space according to their perspective. ‘SUPERLIMINAL is a game inspired by forced perspective. Who cares about how long I’ve been craving the release of Superliminal ( $19.99, Pillow Castle) it’s here now and I can finally talk about it! Alright, no more pleasantries, let’s get into the mind-skewing world of Superliminal. It’s finally arrived! The game I’ve been looking forward to for like a YEAR now, maybe more. The theme answers are usually the longest answers in the grid and are tied together by some clever conceit. The theme: A crossword puzzle’s identity - it’s why a puzzle is memorable, or clever, or creative, or funny, and it’s the toughest part to execute when constructing a puzzle. To understand why Parker’s repetitions cut against crossword norms, it helps to understand what a crossword puzzle is made of. Parker’s crossword ventures, according to a 2003 article in People, made him a “multimillionaire.” Its other clients include CBS News, Merriam-Webster, Smithsonian Magazine and Yahoo. In 2000, Parker earned a Guinness record for “most syndicated puzzle compiler.” There’s no public list of Universal’s clients, but its newspaper clients include the New York Daily News, Boston Globe, Dallas Morning News, Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail in Toronto, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Denver Post and Hartford Courant. Parker has been the editor of the Universal Crossword for over 15 years and began editing the USA Today Crossword in 2003. It’s unethical, and I would never publish a person who plagiarizes another person’s work.” “This would never have come to light except in the electronic age, where you can track these things.” He added: “To me, it’s an obvious case of plagiarism. “I have never heard of something like this happening before,” he told me. Will Shortz, the puzzle editor for The New York Times, was taken aback by Parker’s replications. FiveThirtyEight reached out to USA Today for comment several times but received no response.ġ,090 Universal puzzles and 447 USA Today puzzles were at least a 75 percent match to an earlier puzzle On Friday, a publicity coordinator for Universal Uclick, Julie Halper, said the company declined to comment on the allegations. (The copyright to both puzzles is held by Universal Uclick, which grew out of the former Universal Press Syndicate and calls itself “the leading distributor of daily puzzle and word games.”) USA Today is one of the country’s highest-circulation newspapers, and the Universal Crossword is syndicated to hundreds of newspapers and websites. Nearly all this replication was found in two crosswords series edited by Parker: the USA Today Crossword and the syndicated Universal Crossword. Most of those have been republished under fake author names. Hundreds more of the puzzles edited by Parker are nearly verbatim copies of previous puzzles that Parker also edited. The puzzles in question repeated themes, answers, grids and clues from Times puzzles published years earlier. Since 1999, Timothy Parker, editor of one of the nation’s most widely syndicated crosswords, has edited more than 60 individual puzzles that copy elements from New York Times puzzles, often with pseudonyms for bylines, a new database has helped reveal. A group of eagle-eyed puzzlers, using digital tools, has uncovered a pattern of copying in the professional crossword-puzzle world that has led to accusations of plagiarism and false identity. Wattpad books9/14/2023 Book Show in New York City, Word on the Street in Toronto, and Book Lovers Con in Houston. Other authors are set to appear this spring at PW’s U.S. Todd is set to tour this summer to support her novel The Burning, which is due out August 1. Wattpad Webtoon authors also made regular appearances at independent bookstores and libraries, and did signings at Barnes & Noble and Books-a-Million outlets. Among the stops authors made last year were to New York Comic Con and almost all of the regional bookseller association trade shows. To remedy that, McIntyre and McFadden created an ambitious program to get authors to as many in-person events as possible. While the book group’s authors benefit from having had exposure to the 179 million users of the Wattpad and Webtoon platforms, most are not well-known among the wider reading public or to booksellers and librarians, McIntyre acknowledged. The company’s lists feature a lot of debut authors, since the basis of the publishing program involves Gardner and McFadden's editorial team working with Wattpad Webtoon’s content team to mine the Wattpad and Webtoon platforms for popular stories that they believe would do well as books. This year, Wattpad Webtoon plans to release 41 titles, including 15 under the Webtoon Unscrolled imprint, and McFadden said the publisher will “double down” on its marketing and promotional efforts. “We learned a lot” from last year’s explosive growth, McFadden noted. Though based in Toronto, Wattpad Webtoon Book Group has a number of remote workers, including some who, like McIntyre, live in the U.S. The new hires included six in marketing and publicity whose efforts are directed by Tina McIntyre, who was named v-p of marketing in December 2021. All that activity resulted in sales soaring 468% last year over 2021. Wattpad Webtoon Book Group published 30 new titles in 2022, added three new imprints, and grew the size of its staff to 21. Last year also saw the formation of W by Wattpad Books, an adult imprint with an emphasis on romance whose first list contained the debut adult book by Beth Reekles, author of the YA bestseller The Kissing Booth. The first list was published in fall 2022, and according to Maeve O’Regan, senior manager, marketing and publicity, Wattpad Webtoon titles had the group’s biggest sell-in to date-nearly 200,000 copies across the first three titles, led by True Beauty, Vol. In late November, the Webtoon Unscrolled imprint was announced, with a mandate to publish print editions of hit Webtoon mobile webcomics for both YA and adult readers. Todd continues to publish her own works under Frayed Pages, as well as that of new romance writers that she selects. The co-branded imprint’s first title, After: The Graphic Novel, a graphic adaptation of the prose series, was released in spring 2022. In early November, Anna Todd-one of Wattpad’s first breakout stars, whose After series was eventually published by Simon & Schuster and who then formed the multimedia company Frayed Pages-agreed to team with Wattpad Books to launch Frayed Pages x Wattpad Books. (Gardner is now senior v-p of global publishing, overseeing all of Wattpad Webtoon’s publishing programs.)Īfter the dust from the Naver acquisition began to settle in the second half of 2021, the newly formed Wattpad Webtoon Book Group started to pick up speed. When Covid hit, Wattpad’s authors, all drawn from its online world, easily adapted to promoting titles via virtual events, said McFadden, who is now executive director of the Wattpad Webtoon Book Group. Then in spring 2021, Wattpad was acquired for $600 million by Naver, South Korea’s leading internet platform, whose holdings include the online comics platform Webtoon.ĭespite the pandemic, Wattpad released 15 young adult titles in 2020, including its most successful book to that point, The QB Bad Boy and Me by Tay Marley, which is now set to become a movie starring Noah Beck. Before it could celebrate its first anniversary, however, the pandemic upended plans for the Wattpad Books rollout. In that first year, Wattpad Books was able to release six young adult titles with a small staff led by Ashleigh Gardner, who was then deputy general manager of Wattpad Studios and Publishing, and Deanna McFadden, then publishing director for Wattpad Studios. A lot has happened since Wattpad announced in January 2019 that it was starting a publishing division to produce print books based on the stories on its online platform.
